Official Promo shots for LUCIFER. Photography by Dirk Behlau.
Lucifer is a multinational Heavy Rock band from Stockholm. Founded in 2014 in Berlin by The Oath front woman Johanna Sadonis, the group first consisted of Cathedral, Angel Witch and Ladytron members. The first 7” Single ‘Anubis’ and debut album ‘Lucifer I’, penned by Sadonis and Cathedral’s Garry Jennings and released by British label Rise Above Records, brought Lucifer international recognition. The band completed their line-up with Swede Robin Tidebrink from the band Saturn on second lead guitar. Lucifer has been touring the world including Europe, USA, Canada and Japan.
Lucifer’s is defined by their very heavy 1970s Hard Rock sound spiced with a good dose of Proto Heavy Metal and Doom Rock. Main influences are groups such as Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Blue Öyster Cult, Lucifer’s Friend, Steppenwolf, 70’s Heart and Fleetwood Mac.
With a shift of constellation within the band in 2016 and Johanna Sadonis’ move from Berlin to Stockholm, Lucifer were ready for chapter two. In Nicke Andersson, notable for his groups The Hellacopters, Entombed, Imperial State Electric, Death Breath among others, Sadonis found a new renowned writing partner. Together they wrote Lucifer’s second album ‘Lucifer II’ and produced it at Nicke’s studio The Honk Palace in Stockholm in the summer of 2017. The album was mixed by Swedish producer Ola Ersfjord at Cuervo Recording Services in Madrid.
With the critically acclaimed release of their long awaited second album ‘Lucifer II’ on Century Media on July 6th 2018 and the videos for their new singles ‘California Son’ and ‘Dreamer’, Lucifer is facing a new grand chapter. The album immediately jolted into the Swedish, German, British and American charts and received outstanding worldwide attention.
This year Lucifer played a number of international festivals like The KISS Kruise, Psycho Las Vegas, Hellfest, Desertfest, the long standing German cult TV program Rockapalast to name but a few and embarked on many European dates. Lucifer is now planning to return to Japan and the USA again this winter. With freshly recruited lead guitar players Martin Nordin and Linus Björklund, and the Austrian Alexander Mayr on bass, the band is ready to climb Mount Olympus of Rock.
Ein Sticker mit Werbung ist ja OK, aber was man aus dieser B737 der TUI gemacht hat übersteigt jede Grenze des guten Geschmacks. Ganz abgesehen vom Gelantine-Produkt.
Reactivated Seattle metal band, Sanctuary, have released the video to their track, Frozen, The track comes off their upcoming album, The Year The Sun Died, the video was and filmed in Germany with director, Dirk Behlau. You can view the video here.
Guitarist, Lenny Rutledge comments:
This video shoot was a blast. The location was an abandoned coal mine processing plant near Essen Germany. You can see many bizarre birdcage size baskets hanging from the ceiling. There were thousands of them. We were told that they were some type of “laundry management devices”. They appear as something much more creepy and ominous in my opinion. Almost as if they were some sort of medieval torture devices. The entire building seemed to have a very haunting vibe.
The Year The Sun Died, the first Sanctuary album in 25 years, has been met with worldwide critical acclaim. Decibel Magazine (USA) proclaims, You want powerful, progressive thrash metal? You’ll find it here and gave it 8 out of 10 stars. Aardshock Magazine (NL) put the band on the cover proclaiming them the comeback of the year. The band also appeared on the cover of Germany’s Rock Hard with the number 1 album that month.
The Year the Sun Died will be released in North America on October 14th and October 6th in Europe. It will feature 11 tracks. There will be a deluxe media book, available exclusively at CM Distro in the United States, which features expanded packaging and the bonus tracks, Waiting for the Sun, originally recorded by the Doors. The vinyl version will come with a CD featuring this bonus track as well. The 11 songs on the CD and LP are as follows:
1. Arise and Purify
2. Let The Serpent Follow Me
3. Exitium (Anthem of the Living)
4. Question Existence Fading
5. I Am Low
6. Frozen
7. One Final Day (Sworn to Believe)
8. The World is Wired
9. The Dying Age
10. Ad Vitam Aeternam
11. The Year the Sun Died
Sanctuary was formed in Seattle in 1985, they released two studio albums on Epic Records, Refuge Denied in 1987 and Into the Mirror Black in 1989. Worldwide touring with the likes of Megadeth, Warlock, Fates Warning and Death Angel, just to name a few, followed each album. Singer, Warrel Dane’s, sky high vocals combined with guitarist, Lenny Rutledge’s more mature take on classic thrash riffs separated Sanctuary from the throes of metal bands struggling to get noticed as at the time. Simply put, Sanctuary offered something fresh sounding in the muddled world of ‘80s thrash.
SANCTUARY line-up 2014:
